Calcite with Pyrite

$145.00

This piece features two translucent to transparent, intersecting flattened rhombohedral Calcite crystals with an epitaxial layer of Pyrite. Epitaxy: Growing a crystal layer of one mineral (Pyrite) on the crystal base of another mineral (Calcite) in such a manner that its crystalline orientation is the same as that of the substrate. (thefreedictionary.com. Parenthesis mine.) In this case, the Pyrite has grown on the Calcite crystals’ edges of the top, complete crystal, creating the desirable “Mercedes” logo effect. The crystals are well formed with nice striations and a satin luster. A beautiful and unique specimen in excellent condition.
