Dendrites on Limestone

Dendrites are an amazing phenomena in nature. By definition, Dendrite comes from the Greek “Dendron,” meaning tree. These unique patterns form when water rich in Manganese and Iron seeps into fissures in the layers of Limestone (or other rock) leaving behind deposits of brown-to-black Manganese and Iron that form these incredible patterns. These are not fossils, but natural mineralogical processes. This particular specimen of Dendrites is quite large and tall, exceptionally patterned and stands firmly on its own. A very aesthetic display and quite the conversation piece!
