Fluorite with Pyrite

A beautiful lustrous cluster of lustrous, transparent intergrown light-blue complex cubic Fluorite crystals with internal purple zoning. There is also a light sprinkling of miniature Pyrite crystals along with an epitaxial layer of Pyrite. Epitaxy: Growing a crystal layer of one mineral (Pyrite) on the crystal base of another mineral (Fluorite) in such a manner that its crystalline orientation is the same as that of the substrate. ( Parenthesis mine.) In this case, the microcrystalline layer of Pyrite follows the edges of the Fluorite crystals which serves to give the piece contrast and dimension. A very aesthetic piece in excellent condition.
