Fluorite with Pyrite
A beautiful lustrous cluster of lustrous, transparent intergrown light-blue complex cubic Fluorite crystals with internal purple zoning. There is also a light sprinkling of miniature Pyrite crystals along with an epitaxial layer of Pyrite. Epitaxy: Growing a crystal layer of one mineral (Pyrite) on the crystal base of another mineral (Fluorite) in such a manner that its crystalline orientation is the same as that of the substrate. (thefreedictionary.com. Parenthesis mine.) In this case, the microcrystalline layer of Pyrite follows the edges of the Fluorite crystals which serves to give the piece contrast and dimension. A very aesthetic piece in excellent condition.
