This is an extraordinarily large and beautiful piece, feather numerous sharp, lustrous and highly translucent light-pink Halite crystals on a darker-pink massive Halite matrix. To quote, “Surprising as it seems, microscopic halophilic (salt loving) bacteria live in this highly concentrated brine and when they die, they contribute dark red coloring matter to the brine.” Thus the color. The crystals are truly remarkable (check out the closeup pics), they are numerous and all over this specimen and there is no damage. An exceptionally large and aesthetic specimen. Note of warning: do NOT wash or clean this specimen or all of the beautiful sharp edges will no longer be so – Halite will dissolve in water. Also, don’t lick it . . .
