A large, beautiful and lustrous specimen of Jacaré Smoky Quartz. The crystals are well formed, transparent and have a rich “smoky” color with darker crystal terminations and outer edges. The crystals are aligned in a unique, parallel orientation which is what gives this particular Quartz crystal growth habit its name: The name “Jacaré” comes from the Portuguese word for alligator, since the Brazilian miners find the texture of this crystal growth of Quartz to that of the scales on the back of an alligator. Therefore, this particular crystal growth of Quartz is also referred to as Crocodile or Alligator Quartz. Makes sense. (You may have also seen this particular Quartz crystal growth referred to as “Elestial Quartz” – a term that comes from the metaphysical camp – a derivative of the word “Celestial,” numerous parallel crystals = more energy . . . I’m gonna stick with “Jacaré” – sounds classy and makes sense!) A very aesthetic piece with great luster, color and crystal formation – a superb show piece in excellent condition.
