(From a recent trip to Namibia and Zambia) A large specimen featuring deep green, fibrous, hemispherical aggregates of Malachite displaying a chatoyant, silky luster (Chatoyancy: an optical reflectance effect, as in “cat’s eye,” arising from the fibrous structure of a material . . . ) in a deep, mug shaped vug (please excuse the unintended poetry . . . ) highlighted and outlined by an outside layer of light green fibrous Malachite. A little wordy, I know – but it’s exactly that unique chatoyant luster that makes this particular habit of Malachite the most attractive and eye-catching. A large and amazing piece in excellent condition.
