Septarian Geode

$295.00

Septarians essentially began as mud balls on an ancient sea floor. The seas receded, the mud balls dried out and cracked. Then the sea returned, the mud and cracks became Limestone, Calcite from shells began to seep into the mud balls and crystallize, and finally, a thin layer of Calcite transformed into Aragonite separating the Calcite interior from the Limestone exterior. Thus the name: Septum is Latin for division or partition. Septarians are highly sought after for their contrasting colors, unique patterns and exceptional Calcite crystals.
The natural beauty and translucency of this Geode is especially highlighted through cutting, grinding and polishing – not only on the front, but uniquely all around – a superb, large, natural and colorful piece that displays beautifully and stands on its own with a flat-cut base.
